Raising the Bar: Sober Life, Bold Connections

By Laura Nelson, co-founder of Sober Life Rocks

As I reflect on my journey with Sober Life Rocks, I can’t help but think of a recent retreat I attended that felt like a breath of fresh air in a world often saturated with alcohol-centric social gatherings. Picture this: a retreat where options for drinks extended far beyond the standard soda with a lime, and there was absolutely no pressure to drink or abstain because the host made sure to offer choices. The bartender was trained to whip up all sorts of fun concoctions, with or without alcohol, catering to everyone’s preferences. This retreat marked a turning point for me, where inclusivity and celebration of individual choices were front and center.

Let me introduce myself—I’m Laura Nelson, a seasoned professional in the dental industry with over two decades of experience, and I’m proud to be one of the co-founders of Sober Life Rocks. Four years ago, I made the personal decision to stop drinking, and since then, my perspective on social gatherings has shifted dramatically. Stepping back into the realm of business events post-COVID, I couldn’t help but notice how much networking revolved around alcohol. That realization sparked a fire within me and my co-founder, Margy Schaller, leading us to establish Sober Life Rocks with a dual mission.

Our first mission is to build a supportive community for individuals who identify as sober, sober-curious, sober-ish, or sober wingmen. We’re here to navigate business events together, providing support and celebration every step of the way. But our vision extends beyond just building a community; we aim to normalize sober choices at business events, fostering an environment where everyone feels embraced regardless of what’s in their cup.

Imagine walking up to a bar at an event and being greeted by a colorful array of nonalcoholic options meticulously curated by the event planner. No need to awkwardly inquire about alcohol-free choices amidst the clamor of music; instead, you can confidently select a drink that suits your taste without any fuss. This shift not only caters to non-drinkers but also provides a seamless transition for those looking to moderate their alcohol intake throughout the evening.

The impact of embracing inclusivity and choice was palpable at the recent business retreat I attended. For the first time, I felt not just included but genuinely celebrated, allowing me to engage with groups and socialize without the discomfort I’d experienced in the past. What’s more, witnessing numerous attendees enjoy alcohol-free options highlighted the positive reception to this shift in norm.

The retreat itself was thoughtfully designed with various areas for socializing, including a bar/dance floor, a pool table area, and a lounge, allowing attendees to mingle in ways that suited them best. This multifaceted approach encouraged natural interactions and fostered a sense of belonging for everyone present.

As I envision the future of social gatherings, I see a landscape where choice and inclusivity reign supreme—a future where every sip represents diversity and where Sober Life Rocks shines brightly. Together, as a united community, we can challenge the status quo and redefine what it means to connect and celebrate without the pressure of alcohol.

If you’re interested in joining our community or learning more about making your events sober-inclusive, please visit our website at https://soberliferocks.com or reach out to me directly at laura@soberliferocks.com.

Here’s to a future where choice and inclusivity lead the way, and where every individual feels empowered to embrace their journey, one sip at a time. Cheers!
